'Simpsons' Cast Settles Salary DisputeBy LYNN ELBER, AP Television Writer
LOS ANGELES - A month after stalled contract renewal talks led the voices of "The Simpsons" to stop work, both the actors and Fox are getting more "D'oh!"
Terms of the deal were not announced for the actors who provide the voices for Homer and Marge Simpson and other characters on the long-running animated series.
"We couldn't be happier to have reached a multiyear deal with the enormously talented cast of 'The Simpsons,'" series producer 20th Century Fox Television said Friday in a statement.
A spokesman representing the cast said they had no immediate comment.
Despite speculation the dispute would shorten the 2004-05 season, the studio said it was optimistic that all 22 planned episodes could be finished.
The loss of even a few episodes of "The Simpsons," a bulwark of Fox TV's schedule, would be financially painful for the network.
Each cast member was seeking about $360,000 an episode, or $8 million for the 22-episode, 2004-05 season, the trade paper Daily Variety reported previously. The actors were earning $125,000 an episode.
The contract dispute involves Dan Castellaneta (Homer); Julie Kavner (news) (Marge); Hank Azaria (news) (Moe, Apu and others); Harry Shearer (news) (Mr. Burns and others); Yeardley Smith (news) (Lisa) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart), the paper said.
The actors' previous deal, which covered seasons 13, 14 and 15, was reached without complication.
In 1998, however, the cast — except for Kavner, who had a previous deal in effect — sought significant pay increases. At that time, the performers made $30,000 an episode from a show that has proved a huge international moneymaker.

DON'T SAY A WORD. BACK OFF
Not one word.
If Ken Macha isn't fired by the end of the month, Billy Beane should be.
Don't write mad. Remember what Will Carroll always says, "don't write mad".
Way past mad...
If Ken Macha were in this time zone he would have a few dozen people knocking his teeth out right now.
No. It would be impossible to right now, anyway. The panic button is stuck in the console. After Macha had Scutaro and Kotsay try to bunt in successive at bats and then Kielty missed a bunt sign and tried to bunt with two strikes in the same game (Seattle series at home), that sucker is jammed in there flush. IS IT TIME TO PANIC?
You can blame the lack of run support, but really, this team is not focused and there's a sense of longing for an eruption or tirade within the Athletics...and it's growing.
One more loss and the A's are a .500 team.
That's just awful, even if we are only 1/9th of the way into the season. Billy Beane needs to shake things up. Don't be surprised that there's some movement during the next homestand. Guys are lazy, showing up late, not being prepared...lack of 'professionalism'. Sure, the A's clubhouse still has the Delta House banner flying over the door; but it's just not the same vibe. It's been a few years. Maybe they've grown up and become complacent. That scruffy facial hair used to be a distinct homage to their comrades of youth. Now, that facial hair is there just to hide their puffy compromising faces.
The boys are in a funk Martha. Guess we better get the aprons out, we're a goin' to the cuttin' shed.

After bitching about playing time in AAA Sacramento, the A's are about to show catcher Tom Wilson the door. ASS PRINTS ON THE DOOR
It's a good move from an organizational stand point; BITCH, AND YE SHALL BE DITCHED. Not to mention the A's picked up Mike Rivera off of waivers from the Chicago White Sox. Rivera can hit, is sub-par defensively and had a decent winter in the Puerto Rican League. Nothing to get excited about. He can hit, though and that could help out Mike Rose who is about a year away from geting a call to Oakland.
At what point does it stop being "good" pitching and resume being pathetic at-bats by the Oakland A's? How do you work 5 walks from a pitcher, load the bases twice in the first four innings and have nothing to show for it - but a solo homerun? QUESTION
Letting Ryan Franklin off with a ten pitch 5th inning did in the A's. Somebody make a banner that reads:STOP SWINGING AT THE FIRST PITCH
DUH
KEN MACHA HAS LEARNED NOTHING SINCE GAME FIVE OF THE 2003 ALDS.
We're going to the store to buy some things to break.
From the Yahoo! Sports Preview on the Oakland at Seattle Series: WHY WE FIGHT
Third baseman Eric Chavez, who averaged 31 homers, 107 RBIs over the previous three seasons while hitting .282, has one home run and five RBIs in his first 12 games and is batting .239.
Well, that might explain his impotent bat at the plate for the last week. If he still thinks he is going to be a bonafide free agent at the end of the season he might want to go get a CT scan and check his bank account.
He becomes a free agent at the end of the season, but is determined not to let that become a distraction.
``I'm not to the point where I'm going to let it bother me,'' said Chavez, who entered this season with a .271 average in April.

MAYBE, STUPID - MAYBE, FUN
HEY, HEY, KIDS!
We want to propose something. The last Sunday home game of each month we are going to have Elephants in Oakland Day in the Rightfield bleechers. We offer an entertaining package. For $8 you can:
How can you beat that?- Purchse your very own ticket
- You can meet up with us
- Sit near us at the game
- Learn how to keep score
- Tell the idiots around us to shut-up
- Debate the merits of using the restroom at the top or bottom of innings
- After the game you can hang out with us at a Pyramid Brewery or other locale for post game game analysis
We'd also like to start doing the same at Sacramento River Cats games and a few Modesto A's games this year. With Dan Johnson and Graham Koonce in Sacramento - outfield lawn seats should produce a lot of fun and free baseballs.
We'd like to hit at least one game in Sacramento and one in Modesto a month.
Email us at elephantsinoakland@yahoo.com for more (or some) information.

The elongated meeting at home plate during lineup exchanges tonight was Angels' manager Mike Scoscia bitching about the A's pitchers being on one side of the pitching rubber or the other. The Rule Book states the pitcher has to be in full contact with the pitching rubber. But that can mean many things. The rule has never been enforced as middle of the rubber. If so, why have the rubber that long? The suggestion to bitch came down from Angel's GM Bill Stoneman.
