August 13, 2005 Chris Snelling will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his sprained left knee to determine whether he has damaged his previously repaired ACL, according to the Seattle Times. "Right now, we can only say it appears that Chris has re-injured the ACL," Mariners spokesman Tim Hevly said. "There is a new tear in the previously reconstructed graft. But this cannot be confirmed without arthroscopic surgery."
August 13, 2005 The Mariners placed Chris Snelling on the 15-day disabled list Friday, two days after he sprained his left knee. Snelling has a long history of knee injuries.
August 12, 2005 The Seattle Times reports that Chris Snelling suffered what may be a significant knee injury during Wednesday's game. He was to be examined by the Mariners' medical director last night or today to determine the extent of the damage.
August 6, 2005 As expected, the Mariners recalled Chris Snelling yesterday to take over as their everyday left fielder, according to the Seattle Times.
August 5, 2005 The Mariners likely will recall Chris Snelling from Triple-A Tacoma today to take over as their everyday left fielder, according to the Seattle Times.

July 20, 2005 The Mariners reversed course and decided against sending Chris Snelling down to Triple-A Tacoma, a move they announced on Sunday, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "We just changed our minds," Seattle assistant general manager Lee Pelekoudas said.
July 17, 2005 The Mariners optioned Chris Snelling to Triple-A Tacoma to clear room for the return of Dave Hansen. Snelling could be recalled later in the season if the Mariners trade Randy Winn.
July 3, 2005 Mariners manager Mike Hargrove said that Chris Snelling would be used primarily off the bench, according to the AP. "I'll use him in the outfield occasionally to give Randy Winn a rest." said Hargrove.
| July 3, 2005 The Mariners recalled Chris Snelling from Triple-A Tacoma. Snelling was hitting .363 with seven homers in 215 at-bats. 2006
August 24, 2006 Chris Snelling has started the last three games in right field, with Ichiro shifting over to center, according to the Mariners website. It appears as if the Mariners have started a platoon where Snelling will get the nod against right-handed pitchers. Against lefties, Ichiro will move back to right and Willie Bloomquist will play center field.
August 21, 2006 In order to get the bat of Chris Snelling into the lineup, the Mariners shifted Ichiro to center field on Sunday, according to the official team website. However, it is unclear how often this will happen. Manager Mike Hargrove likes the idea of getting Snelling into the lineup more often, but he wants to make sure that Ichiro is comfortable in center field. Pay attention to where Ichiro plays in the field in the near future. It will determine how much playing time Snelling will get.
August 18, 2006 The Mariners activated Chris Snelling from the disabled list Thursday, according to the AP. He had been out with a left shoulder impingement. He has yet to register any at-bats with the big-league club this season.
July 27, 2006 The Mariners placed Chris Snelling on the DL just one day after they called him up, according to the AP. "Our plan was to option Chris back to Tacoma today," Seattle general manager Bill Bavasi said. "However, he's been on the medical report in Tacoma and when our trainers examined him prior to yesterday's game, they recommended he not play outfield for several days." Snelling is hitting .247 with four home runs in 182 AB wtih Tacoma this season.
July 26, 2006 The Mariners recalled Chris Snelling from Triple-A Tacoma to replace Carl Everett on the active roster. Snelling was hitting just .247 with four homers in 182 at-bats with Tacoma. He's expected to get some time as a DH against right-handed pitching.
April 2, 2006 The Mariners placed Chris Snelling on the 15-day disabled list, rather than the 60-day DL, which appears to be a sign that he's closer to returning from his torn ACL than originally thought, according to the Seattle Times. However, they could still move him to the 60-day DL at any time.
February 27, 2006 Although Chris Snelling took batting practice the past two days, he isn't expected to return to game action until midseason, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He's recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee.

2007
May 2, 2007 Chris Snelling was traded from the Nationals to the Athletics Wednesday in exchange for Ryan Langerhans. Given the injuries Oakland has all over the map right now, Snelling will probably get a chance to play right away, at least some of the time, with the A's.
March 25, 2007 Chris Snelling could open the season as the Nationals starting left fielder with Nook Logan sidelined with a groin injury. Ryan Church will shift over to center.
March 23, 2007 Chris Snelling suffered a left knee contusion in the seventh inning against the Tigers Friday and is listed as day-to-day, according to the Nationals official site. "I took him out of the game because it's Spring Training," manager Manny Acta said. "We had extra guys there. It's precautionary stuff."
March 19, 2007 Chris Snelling, who is competing for an outfield job this spring, went 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs against the Dodgers on Monday. He's hitting .310 this spring with a team-high three home runs.
March 18, 2007 Manager Manny Acta said Chris Snelling is close to locking up a job as the Nationals' fourth outfielder, according to the Washington Post. Snelling homered twice Saturday and is now hitting .308 with three homers and 10 RBI this spring. "He's been showing us he's [healthy]. And he's out of options, and he's having a great spring," Acta said. "He's helping himself big time."
January 16, 2007 The Nationals agreed on a two-year contract with Chris Snelling on Tuesday, according to SportsTicker. The Nats acquired Snelling from the Mariners in the Jose Vidro deal in December.

DAYS OF PAQUETTE AND BIP
Let's jump to Ryan Langerhans and he impacts the A's as early as this evening.
Langerhans doesn't get on base, strikes out too much and has little to no power. Even for a centerfielder. Langerhans is a terrible base runner despite having "speed o play all three outfield positions". His success at stealing bases is less than 60%. Defensively the media purports he can play all three outfield positions. So can Adam Melhuse if he was written into the lineup. Langerhans doesn't have a great arm or great wheels. Langerhans is a stop gap solution at best. The A's got a 27 year old outfielder from another team's minor league system. And that player never rated very high in their system. One can only hope for the John Mabry effect to take hold of Langerhans.Ryan David Langerhans

Chris Denofria, like Langerhans, doesn't get on base, doesn't have power but at least he puts the ball in play. Denofria was rated high in the Reds organization in 2005. But he does not project as an every day major leaguer. Much like Langerhans. Denofria is out for the entire season after Tommy John surgery. Both are league average-type players. This is starting to feel like the A's are reviving the days of Ryan Christensen, Kurt Abbott and Craig Paquette in the outfield.
When it is finalized which players the A's gave up in this deal we can determine precisely how bad things are right now in the A's minor league system. But, you can pencil in "not good" right now and feel pretty safe in your analysis.
