NEW YORK YANKEES VS OAKLAND ATHLETICS

SERIES PREVIEW

The first game and first series of any baseball season can be taken as a sign of things to come, metaphored and analogied to death or it could just a few games between two teams. In this case, it gets blown out of proportion simply because it's the Yankees. Also, many of the same people in baseball who also happen to be able to read, picked the A's as a favorite to win the World Series.
So, we have an abundance of undue layers of frivolity unloaded on an Opening Day that should have been about Eric Chavez getting his Gold Glove, Huston Street the ROY and along with Dan Johnson receiving the award for being unanimously voted on the TOPPS All- Rookie Team.

All should take a back seat in order to honor Bill King.

Unfortunately, anything having to do with the Yankees gets blown out of proportion, so, this should be no exception. As long as the A's are not swept, stay competitive in each game and don't have a series of injuries that takes them out of contention before the end of the first week of the season, things should go just swell.

Barry Zito gets lit up, Frank Thomas goes deep, Bobby Crosby leave the game with an injury, Mark Kotsay and Milton Bradley have two hits and the bullpen gives up 8 runs in 6.2 innings pitched.

An Opening Day to forget.

So, let's.

Skkotch proves to be a late inning go...agian.

SERIES WRAP-UP

STATUS CHECK

Opening night is one to forget with Barry Zito looking as if the calendar still read 'MARCH'. The A's offense was non-existant save for a Frank Thomas solo shot.
In Game 2 the A's stayed close enough to take the game in the bottom of the 9th.
The A's took advantage of two errors by the Yankees in Game 3 to take the series two games to one.
This was not the best baseball played by each team and any relevance it has toward game 162 is lost. The only thing that really matters is the A's won 2 and lost 1.

GAME 1 - LOSS

GAME 2 - WIN

GAME 3 - WIN

The A's head to Seattle for a four game series with the Mariners.

Normally here, I would go over the statistics, but after three games, there's not a lot to go on.

Bobby Crosby, out since Game 1 was expected to return at some point over the weekend.
